In October of 2008, Ryan Ford, creative director for deviantART.com, began a contest to redesign the familiar "dA" logo they had been using for a long while. Their graphic design department came up with a new design modeled on elements of 'geekitude' such as Sega, IBM, and Atari, which they felt conveyed "a sensibility we are all familiar with."
But then the fun began. Ford offered a challenge to the deviantART community. "Bring it on." The dA community had two weeks to come up with their own ideas for a new dA logo and submit them for entry. If someone created a logo which they felt outdid what they had already created the winner would recieve $2500.
With that in mind, this is the design I came up with, along with a number of variations.
In the end, the dA staff decided that they were going to scrub the contest, and instead awarded a consolation prize of sorts to everyone who entered. Oh well, it was a fun challenge.
